Hiyah. I'm 42, I'm a psychiatric nurse, in England. I was diagnosed with SCC tongue cancer on 6th Nov 2013. I've had the hemiglossectomy, neck dissection, trachy, now the PEG feed and in the middle of 30 sessions of radiotherapy. Life has changed utterly and entirely. Hope I can rebuild! I really like your blog, I do hope we both get along OK. Are you on facebook or anything? Estelle x
I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis and the experience you've already been through. You're deep in the trenches at the moment, but being seven months out of treatment now I can tell you that it really does get better. I'd be very happy to correspond with you. You can contact me at misc at visitant dot com.
Hello there... I have just joined the club having been diagnosed in April of 2015... things are moving quickly and I found your blog while looking for pictures of the g-tube and the delightful face mask.
Thank you for your blog and your insights. I have been luck so far, my squamous cell carcinoma was found quickly, just as quickly acted upon. The lymph node and surrounding tissue have already been removed as has one tonsil (now THAT hurts).
I got my g-tube on Thursday and start radiation on Monday. My chemo will start next Thursday.
Thanks for writing. Good decision on getting the g-tube; I can't imagine going through treatment without it. I didn't physically swallow for two months beginning a couple of weeks into therapy. You're "calendar" is going to be almost identical to mine (starting treatment in early June). Your summer is going to suck, but hang on. By the end of September you'll be feeling much better and then you will improve steadily after that. Be sure to read the "Two Years" post here so you can see that you *are* going to come out the other end of this, maybe even better than you went in. Feel free to email me at misc at visitant dot com.
